I know I risked my camera's sensor burning out because of the direct intense sunlight, but I just couldn't pass this shot up. :O

An old photo from my travels that I liked.
The composition is relatively simple but the warm colors around a section of Piazza del Campo, accentuated by the sun against a deep blue sky looked rather pleasing to me.
As it was rather chilly, being winter, the people were seen basking in the sun's cosy rays in their coats. The scene gave the impression of warmth but I was there and remembered the chill.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this was a most lovely spot on this chilly wintry day.
Shot with my old trusty D60 with kit lens, unfortunately in JPEG only.
Interestingly, the colors on this antiquated D60 looked way better than those from my D7000 which frankly was terrible. Many have attributed this to the CCD sensor on the D60.
No polariser was used because back then, I didn't even know what the polariser was for!
Re-do with my latest post processing workflow, JPEG of one of the earliest photos I posted on Flickr, 4 years ago.
this is a result of my faulty card reader... a happy accident since I was able to re-import without the digital damage.

“Synopsis”
A Palestinian group from Gaza hacks into North Korea’s cryptocurrency system, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars. Their true goal is not money—but to recreate the lost homeland of Gaza on American soil.
Amid the backdrop of hardline Republican immigration policies and a growing wave of xenophobia, a quiet plan begins to take shape: the gradual collapse of America from within.
During a speech at Madison Square Garden, Republican presidential candidate Justin Bradford is shot. Almost simultaneously in Los Angeles, former president Owen Reed is attacked at a rally for Democratic hopeful Ryan Bennett.
Two assassinations—mirroring one another—ignite a nation’s deepest divide. Yet, against all odds, Justin survives. His blood type is one in 2.5 million: the Bombay Blood Group.
The only person who can donate such blood is Anaya Patel, a community art facilitator working in Brooklyn. Her blood, stored in the Bellevue Hospital Blood Bank, is used for an emergency transfusion that saves the candidate’s life.
Jack Vance, an agent of the U.S. Secret Service, suspects a Gaza-based network behind the attacks. Together with Cameron Bartlett, the FBI Director of the Los Angeles Field Office, and Veronica Reeves, a senior investigator from New York, he begins to uncover a vast conspiracy.
Their investigation leads them to Rafi Gannam, a former architecture student at the Islamic University of Gaza, who has infiltrated redevelopment sites across Los Angeles and New York—embedding C4 explosives deep within beams and structural cores.
His targets: new residential districts where agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) live—symbols of “the order America built.”
Veronica urges the President to pursue dialogue to prevent further destruction, but President Grant M. Ranford refuses to listen.
Meanwhile, the recovering Justin and his Democratic rival Ryan appear on national television, calling for unity beyond political divisions.
Their words of reason, however, are drowned out when Grant takes the stage in Iowa, defiantly declaring: “We will never bow to terror.”
Among the crowd, Rafi’s operatives have already taken their positions.
As chaos erupts and the stage collapses, Amir Nasser—once Rafi’s comrade, haunted by the memory of his sister’s death in Gaza—tries desperately to halt the chain of destruction.
But Rafi’s conviction remains unshaken.
Under the twilight beneath the Williamsburg Bridge, amid the city’s fading noise, the two men part ways.
It is the boundary between prayer and vengeance, between hope and nothingness.

“あらすじ”
北朝鮮の仮想通貨システムをハッキングし、数億ドルを奪取したガザ出身のパレスチナ人グループが、アメリカ合衆国へ密かに潜入する。
彼らの目的は、失われた祖国ガザを、アメリカの地に「復元」することだった。
共和党による強硬な移民政策と、国内にくすぶる排外感情を利用し、アメリカ社会を内側から崩壊させる計画が静かに進行していく。
共和党大統領候補ジャスティン・ブラッドフォードがマディソン・スクエア・ガーデンで演説中に狙撃され、ほぼ同時刻、ロサンゼルスでは前大統領オーウェン・リードもまた、民主党候補ライアン・ベネットの集会で撃たれる。
国家を二分する双方向の暗殺。だが、ジャスティンは奇跡的に生還する。
彼の血液型は、世界でわずか250万人に一人といわれる「ボンベイブラッド」。
その希少な血を提供できたのは、ブルックリンで活動するコミュニティアート・ファシリテーター、アナヤ・パテルだった。
彼女の血液はベルビュー病院の血液バンクに保存されており、緊急輸血によって、候補者の命はかろうじて繋がれた。

The Digilux 1, a "compact" camera of rather massive size, truth be told, came out in 2002, when digital photography still needed trainer wheels.
It is the first fruit of the cooperation between Leica and Panasonic. The same camera was also marketed under the Panasonic label as the model DMC-LC5.
The lens is a rather good DC Vario Summicron zoom with a maximum aperture, at the lowest focal length, of f/2.0. Far better than other compacts at that time. It covers the focal length range (35 mm equivalent) of 33-100 mm. This lens is good, no question about it. I also rather like the bokeh.
The sensor is a 1/1.7", (7.3 x 5.5 mm) CCD with a resolution of 3.9MP. It is unusual in using a CMYG (as opposed to RGB) filter array, which should have enhanced the overall sensor light sensitivity.
However, this sensor is the weak point of the camera.
Let's face it - the images are noisy. Colour rendition and contrast do look rather good, until you zoom in, which of course you should never do with images taken with such an old camera. When zooming in, you do see the grain and the noise, even at ISO 100. Small wonder: tiny sensor, big noise.
This is the least visible in macro shots such as the above and the most visible in landscape shots.

How AT&T Building was Named the “Batman Building”
There is no mystery as to why the AT&T Building is known as the “Batman Building.” Towering above the Nashville skyline, the architecture features two pronounced towers on either side of the broad ends of the building. Schon ein Oldtimer! Die OLYMPUS Camedia E100 RapidShot mit 1/2" CCD Sensor (CMOS galt damals als Billigprodukt!) und sagenhaften 1,5 MP, ging im Jahr 2000 für über € 1500 über den Ladentisch - die obergeniale Kamera, die ohne ihre gedruckte Bedienungsanleitung in der Hand kaum zu bewältigen ist! Man beachte die süßen Blendensternchen an den Blättern der Seerosen, die völlig unecht aussehen - aber ein Motivprogramm gab es damals noch nicht ;-) Der Kamera seufze ich noch heute hinterher...

The OLYMPUS Camedia E100 RapidShot with 1/2 "CCD sensor (CMOS was then considered a cheap product nearly 20 years ago!) and fabulous 1,5 MP, costed over € 1500 in those days - the supergenial camera, which without its printed manual in the Hand is hard to cope with! Note the sweet Aperture star on the leaves of the water lilies, which look completely fake ;-)

Now that I have my Olympus & macro lens back, My love of macros has returned. There is no comparison. Maybe it's the 4/3 crop sensor, the sharp lens & being able to get sooooo amazingly close, hand held with the in camera stabilization. I don't know exactly what it is. There is no doubt I CAN shoot macros with any camera I'm handed, but there is definitely something special about the Olympus & I have to say that the 60mm 2.8 macro ROCKS! It's hard to see here because I load only web sized versions, but when zoomed in. In on the water drop you can see details in the surrounding world! :-)
Testing out an infrared sensor I picked off of the auction site, works pretty good. I put a 3.5 mm plug on it and hooked it to the camera axe. Model number is E18-D50NK.

Amazing. I finally cleaned my sensor and I'm overjoyed with the clean skies! This is pretty much right out of the camera, no cloning out dirt spots. Taken in Felicity, CA, just this side of the Arizona boarder.

The Gharials or Gavials (Gavialis gangeticus) are pure fish eaters, though a crab or two may be unlucky to be swallowed by these majestic river dwellers. They are the kings of few North Indian rivers, especially Ganges! Since they spend most of their time in water, their eyes are telescopic, placed well on top of their heads. This allows only their periscope-like eyes to come out of water when they surface. Also notice the thin translucent membrane called as 'Nictating Membrane' that is there in the frontal part of the eyes, ready to move backwards to protect the eyes once the animal is submerged. This acts as a water-screen or swimming goggles, which improves the vision of the submerged gharials. This morphological adaptation is there in all 23 crocodilian species around the world!
Seventh Sense: Note that their eyes with vertical pupil are bordered with small pressure sensors (clearly visible in the lower eyelid) that appear like dark spots. With these, they are able to assess the changes in water pressure around them and gives them better navigation and fishing efficiency even in darker and murkier waters, where vision might not be of great assistance. Moreover, these pressure sensors sense the movement of fish and other elements around their mouth (since their jaws are ridden with several of these), leading them to accurately catch fish. Even though this is an extension of touch mechanism, but can be recognized before touching something, since the fish are too smart to swim close to or touch a hungry gharial. The fish have a "lateral line" running along their body from mouth to tail that acts as their pressure sensing mechanism.
Fishing Strategies: Since both prey and predator have these, the predator has 3 strategies. It either waits without any movements for the fish to swim close by to swiftly snap shut its mouth and get its meal. Otherwise, it frightens and chases fish to nooks and corners close to the river beds and bends. Once they are trapped between its huge body and the bank, it feasts on them. The third way is to capture the overconfident huge fishes that do not care about the presence of this huge reptilian in their vicinity.
The dark slit behind the eye is its ear, which also is shut in a watertight manner after diving.
